Contemporary Painting Mentoring
Contemporary Painting Practice
The Contemporary Painting mentoring programme is an online programme. The programme is an easily accessible and convenient platform designed to encourage exploration within the field of painting at an affordable rate. The course is friendly and supportive, yet critical and up to date with current debates and issues within the medium.
The aim of the programme is to provide an opportunity to further strengthen your specialist painting practice and help you on your way to forming a career practicing as a contemporary painter by working with and responding to monthly mentoring sessions (usually held over video call). This guidance will be provided by thoughtful professional painters and experienced academics with years of exhibiting and teaching experience. We aim to guide you through many of the conditions, questions, contexts and techniques appropriate to international painting practice by analysing your practice and offering advice and suggestions designed to open up new pathways for investigation. We specialise in guidance aimed at improving techniques as well as providing contextual and conceptual understanding on the potential role of painting within contemporary art and the wider world.
The ten-month programme will provide you with monthly bespoke advice delivered face-to-face. Our mentors will respond to the images you send them of your new work and give you a personal response that will focus on improving your work, your knowledge of the field and your understanding of professional practice. They may also comment directly on how you might expand your research and offer bespoke technical and conceptual guidance.
* Studio visits can be arranged at a slightly higher cost. (*at present this is offered to students based in London, Glasgow, Stockholm and Brighton only – and they are subject to agreement by the mentors based in those cities).
